The real story of Battle of Longewala on which bollywood movie Border (1997) was based.

It was a gruesome battle between the two countries where India was heavily outnumbered by a large Pakistani infantry and armour during middle of the war. The Indian army was desperately trying to conceal the facts from Pakistani forces not giving them an idea of how few soldiers were fighting for India and employed Military deception. They went roaring and blazing with gunshots while tactically avoiding the active areas. Simultaneously, the communications team was desperately trying to get in touch with the airbases to seek support because winning this battle was a blind sight with the current size of the force. Unable to fly and fight in the nights, the air squadron requested them to hold on until morning and they promised that with the first light of the sun, the enemy would see flames pouring from the sky. Indian Army suffered two causalities in this battle, one was a mine-laying accident and the other to enemy fire, while Pakistan Army saw hundreds of infantry dead and almost all their tanks & vehicles either destroyed or abandoned.

And they delivered on their promise, the enemy was massacred. Most of the force retreated from that battle and Pakistan surrendered on 16th December, 1971.

During their retreat, one message to their base was intercepted which closely read, "Hume support bhejein, warna ladna to kya hum zinda wapis bhi nahi aa payenge."
Translation, "We need immediate support, else let alone fighting them, we won't be able to retreat even."
